Scope:

Existing footprint, kitchen, dining room, family room, entry, mudroom

Problems:

• Spatially, this family of 4 had a cramped closed corral of a kitchen with passage to other areas through this busy space.

• They were also saddled with poor quality, generic white cabinets that bucked their personal style.

Solution:

• What to do when the rest of the herd is heading toward another white-out storm and your pony is purple? Call Rhonda.

• Remove wall between kitchen, message center and dining room, designing around a necessary structural post.

• Utilizing the old message center space, it added kitchen space and opened flow to the dining and family room by also turning the peninsula into an island.

• The original large pantry room became a much-needed drop-spot-mudroom.

• The requested strong wall color was bridged on the ceiling to increase scale and proportion, avoid busy color blocks and defines this lidded room from the tall vaulted ceilings on each side.

Personality/Style:

• This colorful family wants to reflect their love of art (with art/craft area open to the living spaces), color and their personality in a bold way.

• Longtime fans of purple, orange and Moroccan styles, they sought a designer who was willing to forego safe neutrals and prescriptive styles and help execute their own vision of a less traveled, very personal, passionate statement.
