About This Kitchen Remodeling Project

Scope:

(done in 2 phases, existing house footprint)

Main Floor:

  • Kitchen: Complete removal and replacement

  • Bathroom: Add half bath (borrowed from kitchen)

Upper Floor:

  • Bathroom: Complete removal and replacement (enlarge, borrow from bedroom)

  • Bedroom: Guest room remains but utilize/reconfigure closet

Problems:

Main Floor:

  • Kitchen: Cramped storage, counter and body space for 2 cooks.

  • Bathroom: There was none on the main floor (not uncommon for a 1911 house).

Upper Floor:

  • Bathroom: The only bathroom on this floor, cramped tub/shower combo, no storage.

  • Bedroom: Large but oddly configured guest room closet.

Solutions:

Main Floor:

  • Kitchen: The dated garden window and small corner window with no views were eliminated creating additional wall cabinet storage. The range and sink on the ends of the “U-shape” created 13’ of uninterrupted storage and counter. The window facing the backyard was replaced, height raised, allowing for new sink location.

  • Bathroom: A Euro-sized half bath was squeezed out of existing kitchen space and yet, the kitchen storage and counter were almost doubled (yes, it’s magic).

Upper Floor:

  • Bathroom: The overall room size was enlarged with borrowed space from the adjacent guest room closet, allowing for a larger vanity and tub/shower (with head clearance code in check). Other clever space savings were created with a door change and a tankless toilet.

  • Bedroom: Borrowing from this closet not only rescued the bathroom, it actually increased the
usable space in this closet (yep, more design magic).

testimonial:

“Rhonda helped us look at our space with fresh eyes and asked us questions which really made us reflect on what we wanted. We appreciated Rhonda’s honesty, endless resources and ideas. She’s truly an expert. She left no stone unturned when creating kitchen design plans which were expertly detailed and easy for our contractor to implement. It was money well spent and her enthusiasm and support was invaluable. Naturally, we called her when we were ready for our upstairs remodel, too!”
